I've been mulling over options for the clasps on this coat. Given the red/orange/gold tones in the yarn, I think silver is out, so it needs to be copper or brass. I found some copper oak leaf clasps on eBay last week and ordered three. (I have enough cardigans in my to-be-knit list that I know I'll use them for something eventually if they don't work out for this project.) Here they are sitting on the coat.
I've also been looking at some clasp options at the same place I bought the buttons for my Sonnet sweater, buttondrawer.com. I'm partial to the Trivet Clasp.
The knitting itself is going well. The body is knit in 16-row repeats, with an increase row and a slipped-stitch row and one oddball on row 15, so it's easy to watch a movie or listen to podcasts while knitting. I have 6" done on the body; the pattern recommends 16" total, but since it's knitted top down, the length is entirely up to me. I may have to measure a coat that mom thinks is a good length to figure out when to stop.
I bought 23 balls of the yarn and so far I've used up 9. I think I'm on track to have enough. I do have a couple sources for extra yarn if I run out, though.
