Sockicide Shocks Quiet North Raleigh Neighborhood!

Was it homicide or suicide, authorities wonder

Death of a Sock

Dad's second sock met its untimely end between 7pm and 9pm on August 25, 2007. At this time it is not known if foul play was involved.

The known facts are as follows:

Approximately 35 rows into the knitting of the foot of the sock, it was noticed that an error had occurred in the ribbing pattern about 10-15 rows back. This error involved a stockinette stripe that caused a really obvious and unsightly sunken region around the instep. After some consideration, witnesses say that an attempt was made to "fix" this error without actually ripping back and redoing the area, since it would have been necessary to rip back into the decreases and this would have been a quote "massive pain in the ass" unquote. After the "fix" was implemented, knitting continued for another 10 rows.

At this point it was decided that the "fix" looked like "crap on a cracker" and the decision was made to rip back anyway, "god damn it". However, the nature of the "fix" was such that ripping back past the error was impossible. At this point, the facts get a little hazy. There are reports of a tussle involving the sock, and ultimately a pair of scissors got involved. Later that evening, the sock was discovered on the kitchen floor, trailing ragged strands of yarn around a gaping gusset. A pair of scissors was found nearby.

Raleigh knitting police urge anyone with information about the case to contact their local yarn store.
